World View Unveils Balloon Spacecraft That Will Begin Passenger Flights in 2024
World View has revealed the design of its Explorer Capsule, a balloon-based spacecraft that can take eight passengers and two crew members to the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere.
Tickets for the flights, which begin in 2024, cost $50,000 per seat. World View is now taking bookings for the six- to 12-hour flights, which will launch from a series of major landmarks, including the Great Barrier Reef, the Giza Pyramids and the Great Wall of China.
The capsule was designed by PriestmanGoode in collaboration with DZYNE Technologies. Inside the hexagon-shaped pods, passengers will be seated in a climate-controlled, pressurized environment, accompanied by a concierge and a pilot. PriestmanGoode’s design aimed to make the interior accessible for multiple passengers and similar in level of luxury to business class on a standard commercial flight. Meanwhile, World View is also marketing its trips to businesses for corporate bonding exercises, product launches and executive retreats.
