Adrian Grenier Joins Space Tourism Company
World View, a space tourism company, plans to start commercial flights to space in 2024. In a recent interview with Bloomberg QuickTake, Ryan Hartman, CEO and President of World View, and Adrian Grenier, environmentalist and Chief Earth Advocate for World View, talked about the company’s mission, which is not only to use technology to explore space, but also to encourage introspection and reflection on Earth.
Hartman explained that the company is designing seven spaceports around the world and plans to offer a unique experience for its customers by introducing them to the beauty and fragility of the planet before taking them to space. This approach aims to create an awe-inspiring and profound change in perspective for customers, which is commonly referred to as the “Overview Effect”.
World View has been in business for seven years and has been conducting flights since 2014. It is now designing a new capsule to amplify the customer experience, with the focus on the six to eight hours that customers will be in the stratosphere. The company is also going through the regulatory process to obtain a commercial spaceflight license, which is expected to be granted in 2023. The first trial flights will likely occur in 2023, with commercial flights to space starting in 2024. The cost of a ticket will be $50,000, which is considered more affordable than other space tourism options, although still not accessible to large swaths of the population.
Grenier explained that the mission of World View is not just to offer a space tourism experience, but also to encourage people to connect with each other and with the environment and to contribute to a radically improved future on Earth.
